Overview

Danum Valley is a 438 square kilometer area of almost undisturbed rain forest. 

The field center opened in 1986 and acts as an establishment for scientists conducting research and for educational purposes.

Danum is home to many mammal including Orangutans, Gibbons, Tarsier, Pygmy Elephants sunbears aswell as 270 species of birds including Bornean Bristlehead, Bulwer's Pheasant, Bornean Ground Cuckoo, all 8 species of Hornbill, 6 species of Pitta and boosting the recently discovered and only record of the Spectacled Flowerpecker.

Kawag is Danum's close neighbour with many of the same species of wildlife and is a lot less 'touristy'.
